The Trevor Porter Award
For Outstanding Contribution To The Fire Swim
This trophy was introduced in 1997 by the Fire Swim Committee to thank people for their endeavours to the Fire Swim.

The very first recipient of this award was Mr. Rowland Hill who was the Colchester Borough Council Sports & Leisure Manager.  He had been on the Fire Swim Committee since it’s first year in 1982, and attended each Swim for the full 24 hours. It was his retirement that led to the introduction of the award as the Committee wished to recognise his commitment.

The Trophy is named after one of the founding members of the Swim and indeed, Trevor was Chairman of the Committee until his death in 2004.  He tirelessly devoted many years to the Fire Swim, not only in helping to organise and promote the event and spending the full 24 hours at the event year on year, but also devoting time to those who took part and benefited from the money raised. Many of the swimmers and recipients have a tale to tell of Trevor!  The trophy is therefore, aptly given in his name as he was a shining example of the nature of person to whom this award is made.

As you can see, the award is not given lightly and each recipient is warmly thought of and their endeavours greatly appreciated.

The recipient of the award is always kept confidential until the presentation is made, which has proved tricky when it’s been awarded to a member or the Committee!
